Sprint race points awarded in leagues.
Hi Maverick

I am confused about the rules of awarding extra points to teams in Sprint races. Having won both the Sprint and the Race, I thought that Verstappen would have scored quite highly in China. But this seems not to be the case.

Can you detail the points scoring system for Sprint races more clearly please.

Many thanks

Each team is awarded additional race series points according to their position in qualification for that particular league; the first 8 being awarded the equivalent race points of the sprint event in descending order. Is that correct?

Yes it is.

Sprint points
Thanks Jobber for the explanation.

So, as I see it, each team is awarded additional race series points according to their position in qualification for that particular league; the first 8 being awarded the equivalent race points of the sprint event in descending order. Is that correct?

Also what does "race series" mean?

2.2.1. Public League:
A league created by a team owner which can be joined by everyone. In this league up to 2 teams per team owner are possible. The public league changes into a race series automatically when the number of members comes up to 20.

2.2.5. Race Series:
After a public or private league changes into a race series, it won't be possible to leave or join this race series anymore. Teams which are not a member of a league prior to a race (after the database is closed) are automatically assigned to leagues to get as many as possible race series.

The teams are ranked within a race series according to special race series points. The following 4 scoring systems are available:

- Official scoring system since 2010: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 (default)
- Historical scoring system 2003 - 2009: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1
- Historical scoring system 1991 - 2002: 10-6-4-3-2-1
- Historical scoring system 1961 - 1990: 9-6-4-3-2-1

sprint scoring
I think I just figured this out. I explained my confusion in the previous message and it all stems from language usage and definitions of terms. Pretty sure I get it now Jobber after re-reading your remarks and reading Dahji. I will not try to explain it though. lol

By the way I notice we are "matched" in Miami. May our race be determined by the best strategy and not blind luck. Looks like an absolutely equal match as well.

sprint scoring
Thanks Jobber but I remain totally confused. You refer to PFF1 qualifying on Saturday nights. To me all qualifying whether for the sprint or the main race are pff1 qualifying and surely the day of the week is not relevant. Also what does "race series" mean?

I will just do my best to pick qualifying as usual. Is that the best strategy? I have no idea.

Not complaining; love our game; sprint races **** and threw a wrench into us and Mav continues to do a brilliant job. I might just be a bit slow lol.

Not Maverick, but I'll take a shot at it:

In Race Series that use the Official points rules, the additional points on Sprint weekends are awarded based on the PFF1 Qualifying results, which are now based on the real race Qualifying session at the end of Saturday (a change made in response to the new session order on Sprint weekends in 2024, as outlined in Maverick's latest news post). So the real sprint sessions don't directly count for anything here anymore.

It's now essentially the same as a non-sprint weekend, but with extra race series points awarded on the Qualifying results. Components now score Qualifying points in the same way in all race weekends.

This was the 2023 rule (excerpt from Rule 5.1 (Scoring)):
In real races with a Sprint Event, the result of the Sprint is used for the PFF1 qualifying results.

In 2024, the rule is now:
In real races with a Sprint Event, the result of the Qualiying is used from 2024 (same as in races without a Sprint Event) for the PFF1 Qualifying results.
