Team Budget changes after Race 3
|
I just got a big shock.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that a limit on budget increases was applied after the extraordinary adjustments in race 3. In short, even though a team might theoretically increase its budget by more than 6 million, the cap meant that a negative cash balance was imposed which limited it.
Now it seems that no cap was applied and many teams increased their budget by as much as 9 million or even more. Had I known of this change, of course I would have strategised differently. But I see no change in the rules for the 2024 season concerning this.
Am I wrong about this or what?
Obviously this is immensely disheartening as the sudden and significant changes in relative team values now advantages those who benefited so much that the rest of us might as well give the season up. The eventual winners are already designated.

Bearman is the third driver with the most points, so he has to be the one that costs 4 millions. Since budget adaptions are only made after race three with the exception of race victories / double victories, this had to happen only now. And Sainz won the race and Ferrari got a double victory, that's why they gained budget even without having had a green arrow.

none of that five million pertained in anyway to the typical third race it was in addition

The easiest approach to a successful team budget management is to choose components with a green arrow and avoid components with a red arrow icon.
Go to MENU -> STATISTICS -> COMPONENT COSTS or look at your team edit page.

In that case it would be better to state that hedging a component prevents it from negatively or positively affecting a team's cash balance rather than having a table that says a -1m component value change results in a +1m cash balance change, as that +1m is only applied after the regular component value change and not instead of it. Had I realised that I would have picked Primes...

The value of the Option tire was 4 M. before race 3. The value has been decreased by 1 M. to 3M.
With value hedging you saved the 4M. Hedging does not increase a component value.
Komatsu +3 / Verstappen -1 / Magnussen +1 / Bearman +3 / Haas +1 / Ferrari Cust Eng. 0 / Options -1 (without hedging) = +6 M.
Komatsu +3 / Verstappen -1 / Magnussen +1 / Bearman +3 / Haas +1 / Ferrari Cust Eng. 0 / Options 0 (with hedging) = +7 M.
Komatsu +3 / Verstappen -1 / Magnussen +1 / Bearman +3 / Haas +1 / Ferrari Cust Eng. 0 / Primes (without hedging) +1 = +8 M.
Komatsu +3 / Verstappen -1 / Magnussen +1 / Bearman +3 / Haas +1 / Ferrari Cust Eng. 0 / Primes (with hedging) 0 = +7 M.

= 6m increase
If Option tyres were hedged should that be a 7m or 8m increase? The way I read the rules the -1m for Options would become +1m if they were hedged and would equal an 8m increase for the team above. My team with these components including hedged Options (+2nd team KMag swapped for Hulk) the increase was 7m. Another player with identical components except Prime tyres had an 8m increase.

If only I had realised the difference between extraordinary and standard budget increases. I thought the cap applied to both. I suppose one learns something new every day. Better luck next season I suppose

After Race 3, as every year, a normal cost adjustment was performed.
The cost increase or decrease of a component is limited to 3 million per race.
An additional extraordinary cost adjustment was not necessary this year. It must be pointed out again that an extraordinary cost adjustment never has an impact on the team budgets.
Why are there bigger budget differences this year:
3rd Driver Oliver Bearman: +3 M.
Team principal Komatsu, Ayao (Haas): +3 M.
Double victory for Ferrari: chassis +1 M., engine +1 M., Sainz, Leclerc +1 M.
And once again to clarify: An additional extraordinary cost adjustment would not have changed any of the cost shifts in the team budgets.
BTW: If you had chosen Bearman as 3rd driver in your winning team, you would have also achieved a cost increase of 11 M.
