Principal Scoring - suggestion for 2017
I've been slightly troubled by the scoring for Principal for some time now. It's a minor point, but this component always has the highest points/cost and as a result it is usually correct to pick the highest-valued Principal. I think the problem has been made worse by good F1 reliability and Mercedes domination, but even without this I think the component scores too many points. Anyone else have a view on this? A minor adjustment would be to leave the race scoring as is, but change the qualification scoring to the following:

Front-row lock-out (1-2): 3 pts
Both cars in Q3: 2 pts
One car in Q3: 1 pt

This is only a small adjustment but would bring Principal somewhat more in line with other components.

Agree...
As Dominik correctly points out, using Principal for budget growth does add another strategic element to this component, but that can be retained while still reducing the points/cost.

And I agree with Maverick that placing 1st and 3rd in quali should get more points than 9th and 10th. Maybe another way of smoothing it out would be to reduce the double-finish bonus from 5pts to 3 since in modern F1 this is fairly common and not the achievement it once was? Or scoring the race 8pts down to 1?

If you do decide on a change, Mav, I do feel it would be an improvement to give 1pt for a car getting into Q3 since in the "real" F1 this is often an important target for mid-pack teams and from the PFRL perspective I think it's useful to create a points difference between a Principal whose cars line up on the back row and one who gets a car into Q3.

Cheers ~ Kat

ps ... and yes increasing the minimum cost from 3 Mio to 5 would also work

@KvS: Thank you very much for your feedback. I really appreciate your contribution.
You are right, the points/cost ratio is quite high.

But I am not sure about your Qualifying scoring suggestion:
- Pos. 1 + 3 = 2 pts. and pos. 9 + 10 = 2 pts.
- Less points differences for Qualifying ranking (pole position award)
- Points/cost ratio won't be decreased significant

But I can imagine to do something like that:

Qualifying scoring:
Ranking points:
1. Team principle: 3 pts.
2..Team principle: 2 pts.
3..Team principle: 1 pt.

Bonus points:
Front-row lock-out (1-2): 1 pt.
One car in Q3: 1 pt.

In addition to that I would suggest to rise the minimum component value from 3 to 5 Mio. That would decrease the points/cost ratio a lot and would make some cheaper team principles more attractive (at least in the first half of a season).

13 Million promises 20 points, thats huge. On the other side you don't benefit from cost adjustments.
Team principal is to be handled in two ways: Either you spot a cheaper team with an opportunity to gain in value and drive a good race or you pick the principal of the strongest team in the season.
