  PFF1 Cup 2022
In this thread you can post everything concerning this year's PFF1 cup.

My winning streak in cup has sadly been broken by an incredibly strong Keke. However, I knew this is going to be a tough group, and now I also have numbers for proof.

If you go to the Playoff ranking in cup that will be decisive for the seeds in the knockout stage, you will see that group leaders are on first 16 places, then runner-ups of all groups on ranks 17 to 32 and so on. Among each group of 16, the one with the best record is on top.

The leader among 1st placed comes from group 3.

The leader among 2nd placed comes from group 3.

The leader among 3rd placed comes from group 3.

The leader among 4th placed comes from group 3.

Pretty much incredible...

No worries Justin. You've had a really strong year. Got a shot in the Eliminator too (looks close between yourself, Alan and jiko).

We're neck a neck after qualifying. A boring race probably benefits me but if a Merc wins it gets very close, while a Sainz retirement is probably game over for me (same for yourself with Leclerc). First laps in Mexico are often chaos, so I'm crossing my fingers it's a rare clean one!

GaKra, I think I know where you were going. First season I've looked strong late on in the main championship. I've got a shot there. Good to be competing on multiple fronts late-on. Just my CRL team that's not in it (snagging 3rd there would be a miracle).

CUP 22

Thank you Carlisle Frost for your wonderful commentary again this season. Thank you for your kind words. Its been quite a journey of luck to meet you in the Semis.
At one stage I was 5th in my group!
Good luck with the race today..but it would be a miracle if I get through. Mind you, Never Say Never, Gakra may have a point. If Hamilton wins and LeClerc beats Sainz........

@CarlisleFrost Absolutely impressive season, and it wouldn't surprise me if... but don't worry, I'm not going to jinx it and will tell you later.

Ugh, Sainz's retirement hurt that round. Lots of people across the game who'd gone with him and Ferrari, while those who avoided them had a great time!

As for the quarter finals....
- #1 seeded Futchi stayed on track with a solid score and win over Alan_T_Riley. Kudos Alan on a great Cup run. You pushed him close, despite your handicaps!
- Huge score from Flavio sees him progress against sirapz. Best score out of everyone in the Cup. Bad luck to sirapz, whose score would have won against a few others!
- Both imagedoctor and I took plenty of pain from Sainz's retirement, but me having less Ferrari parts decided it. Had Sainz kept going, this could have been a real nailbiter! I did manage to use Primes to get those out of the way.
- Finally, #14 seed, JUSTIN BIEBER advances, knocking out #6 seeded roi_1975. Another one largely down to Sainz, which would have been really close otherwise. Well done Justin!

So, we're down to the final 4. Next weekend we've got...
- Top seeded Futchi against unseeded Flavio. Both with plenty of ERS charged and budgets are close, though Flavio has mandatory Primes to use, whereas Futchi has flexibility. Slight edge to Futchi but not one I'd be betting on!
- #14 seeded JUSTIN BIEBER against myself, so another seed vs non-seeded battle. Forced Primes for JUSTIN, who's also down on ERS and budget, so they get the role of dangerous underdog for this one! Mexico ruined one of my Cup runs when a favourite for the title a few years back, so I'll have my fingers crossed it's not unlucky again.

Not long to wait until it's time to race, so bring it on!

@Alan, odds are you're right and if I had to bet, I'd definitely back Futchi BUT the joys of these match-ups are nothing's guaranteed (unless someone goes the low-blow copy-ERS route) and shocks happen pretty often.

The knockout rounds so far are a great example of it. GaKra, mlagadms, Daijhi, Schumacher, FxFan77, Chris... All were pretty strong favourites in the matches they lost, with a key retirement or just inspired team selection from an opponent (or both) causing the upset.

You've got nothing to lose and if Futchi does win, you can still be proud of your run to the quarters

thx Carlisle but we all know Futchi is going to kick my ass
My run in the play-offs is coming to a brutal ending barring a major miracle in my direction. There are so many interesting variations of strategies regarding the whole match racing deal we could have great discussions here. The cautious, careful by the skin of my teeth approach to today where one has fourteen energy pts plus 138 million dollars, as well as being free from prime tyres takes shrewdness, calculating and courage. I tip my hat to Futchi up front but will not concede till they count the votes.

My early gamble with this one car was that by this time Mercedes would become competitive and give me better choices for the prime tyre uses.

The bottom line is this is the best i have done in the cup competition but not there yet.

That was a painful lap 1 for plenty of people across the site, with Sainz's retirement playing a major part in many of the Cup matches and beyond.

Rounding up this weekend's matches...
- #1 seed Futchi scraped through by the skin of their teeth against Superviper. Tied on points, so Futchi goes through due to a higher points total across the season. Sure Futchi's glad they didn't use 1 point less of ERS!
- Alan_T_Riley, the #8 seed won through comfortably against Alpha908, who couldn't repeat their heroics of the previous round.
- sirapz scored a good win over Waller in a battle of the non-seeds, while Flavio defeated Lederfisch in another non-seeded match-up.
- #2 seed, Keke was beaten by myself. A mix of them being forced to use primes plus the Sainz retirement settled this one.
- imagedoctor got a deserved win (but fairly close) against Graham Stapleton, who'd been inactive for the last 2 rounds. Shame, as they came into the knock-outs with a dangerous budget.
- #3 seeded FxFan77 was another casualty of the round, losing to #14 seeded JUSTIN BIEBER. This one was super close, decided by 4 points (ERS used by JUSTIN). FXFan's score would have been good enough to win against anyone but JUSTIN or myself, so bad luck for them!
- #6 seeded roi1975 was victorious against #11 seeded Chris. Both teams had heavy Ferrari influences, but Sainz on Chris's made the difference. Two great competitors but only one could advance.

Looking ahead to the quarter finals in two weeks' time...
- It's #1 vs #8 in our first match-up. Futchi vs Alan_T_Riley. Two strong performers all season with similar budgets, but an ERS advantage for Futchi and forced primes for Alan means the top seed comes in as a slight favourite. Course, that guarantees nothing, as our knockouts have already shown!
- Non-seed vs non-seed for match 2, with sirapz coming up against Flavio. Both claimed some impressive wins in the last few rounds, so I expect a close one here!
- Another non-seeded affair for match 3, which pits myself against imagedoctor. Two strong budgets clashing, with us both having claimed a very reputable scalp so far in the knockouts (Schumacher for him, Keke for myself). A higher budget for me, plus forced primes for imagedoctor does make him an underdog, but all it takes is one bad move or bit of bad luck to turn it!
- Finally, we're back to two seeded players in the last quarter final. #14 JUSTIN BIEBER vs #6 roi1975. Both have come through some rough matches so far (JUSTIN beating Hiensi and FxFan77, while roi beat Rainer-Zufall70 and Chris). Brutal draw for them and a tough, tough match-up here. Another tough one to call!

End of the season is coming into sight, but so much left to play for here and on all other fronts!

Thank you for the round-up, @CarlisleFrost. This makes watching at the sidelines as a neutral spectator a bit more interesting. I have to admit it was quite a blow to go out like this, after having made sure not to miss any news, trying not just to win my duels but also keep strategy for the entire season in mind and then everything is gone because news came at worst possible time and exactly my driver was the victim. But of course much more important is that Albon is already well enough to participate again. And of course it is true that luck was on my side in many tight duels in the last few years.
Now you can expect me to have at least one team ready to attack the race win in every race yet to come. Okay, I did that in recent races, too, but probably no one noticed.

Well, that weekend threw up plenty of surprises thanks to the bad weekends for Alpine and Mercedes.

9 of the 16 seeds fell at their first hurdle including mlagadms (#4 seed), Colin (#5 seed), Daijhi2 (#9 seed), Daijhi (#13 seed), and the shock of the round being imagedoctor's victory over Schumacher. Dominant win for Chris vs katalyst and an impressive one for roi1975 vs Rainer-Zufall70 (another clash of big names). Looking ahead to this weekend, we've got...

- Futchi vs Superviper: The top seed vs the 2021 Cup runner up.

- Alan_T_Riley vs Alpha908: 8th seed of the back of a dominant win faces a non-seed who impressively knocked out the #9 player last round.

- sirapz vs Waller: Battle of the non-seeds who both thumped their seeded opponents last round.

- Lederfisch vs Flavio: Another non-seeded match-up, both having beaten their seeded opponents by solid margins last round. No seeds in this second quarter of the draw, so all to play for!

- Keke vs myself: A true heavyweight clash. #2 seed against one of the top non-seeds with a mean Cup record. Top 2 constructors from last year, both top 5 in the world rankings and achievements aplenty!

- imagedoctor vs Graham Stapleton: Another non-seeded battle but two strong budgets clashing for a place in the quarters.

- JUSTIN BIEBER vs FxFan77: 14th seed vs 3rd seed. Multi-race winning veteran vs the Eliminator duel champion for the last 2 years (and one hell of a budget).

- roi1975 vs Chris: 6th seeded veteran of 19 seasons vs 11th seed and one of the strongest players in recent seasons (gunning for a first major trophy).

Very few, if any matches where there's a clear favourite, so it could be an exciting, nerve-wracking weekend of racing!
