Beware of the Expert in the PFF1 Cup!
As a Pro entered in the PFF1 Cup competition it seems an Expert can shadow my team and then use ERS to almost guarantee to beat me. I can now see I should have used “Secrecy“.
Over a season, and in a league, I can see the ERS advantage might even out but in the PFF1 Cup it is much more binary. I feel I have been mugged!
Be wary of the Big Beast in the jungle - The Expert.

Very valid point David. While I personally have ERS, my main tips are...
- Do your Cup team last and closest to the deadline (understandable that not everyone can).
- Make some changes/predictions early to throw your opponent off a bit, then make a final change and update predictions close to the end.
- Show ERS usage one way as a decoy but then change it late (only if you have ERS!).
- Come up with a team that the opponent can't copy due to budget (if your budget is higher) or insufficient changes (as they can only make 4 changes from what they have).
- Secrecy is a last resort.

I love the Cup and Eliminator as I enjoy the tactical side of it and trying to outthink an opponent!

Finally, a fair number of Experts (myself included) are against the copy-ERS approach, so it's know your opponent. Most who take the tactic do it fairly often, so you'll notice it or can check on their past match-ups. I know who to expect it from/who won't, so can plan accordingly.

i just was nearly copied last race. my deficiency here in the game ist surely, that i allways save my teams very early in the evening before (family and stuff like this ). so my opponent saw, that i will charge ers and because of 2 mio less than me he was just nearly reconstructuring my team. but against the prediction, my krack+zhou+charge has beaten his toto+sergeant+uncharge.
some of luck but it shows one way you can protect for beeing copied.

It is true that in Cup being able to use ERS is an advantage. True, you also have to charge ERS first and find the right time to sacrifice points without losing your duel, but at least you have your fate in your own hands.
The copy-ERS-strategy is frowned upon by many as unfair but not illegal, and some players are notorious for using it when they can. Using the secrecy button is a weapon against this, or finding a combination that would force your opponent to make five or more changes to their team to copy you (as long as they can't compensate minus points with ERS), but that is a bit tricky.
However, you have the licence to play as an expert and you might think about doing so for the Cup's sake. You can always decide not to use ERS in other teams and play like a pro there. The only downside is that you won't have the button that gives you a hint for the fastest lap.
